Repertoire
Edward Cohen has an all-embracing solo repertoire which, although including numerous works by all the major composers for the piano, has a special emphasis on lesser-known and often unpublished works; recent projects of this kind include works by Charles-Valentin Alkan, Ferrucio Busoni, John Cage, Alfredo Casella, Duke Ellington, Radamés Gnattali, Leopold Godowsky, Marc-André Hamelin, Vladimir Horowitz, Nikolai Kapustin, Charles Koechlin, Fariborz Lachini, Gyorgy Ligeti, Hannibal Lokumbe, Arthur Lourié, Sergei Lyapunov, Federico Mompou, Leo Ornstein, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Fazil Say, Rodion Shchedrin, Khaikosru Sorabji, Art Tatum, Arcadi Volodos, Earl Wild and the reinventions of the rock band Radiohead's songs for piano by Christopher O'Riley, to name but a few.
This eclectic interest is extended into his wide-ranging chamber repertoire where recent undertakings include, alongside the more standard repertoire, major works by Malcolm Arnold, Samuel Barber, Arnold Bax, François Borne, Benjamin Britten, Christopher Caliendo, Benjamin Dale, Henri Dutilleux, Gerald Finzi, Alberto Ginastera, Mikhail Glinka, Sofia Gubaidulina, Paul Hindemith, Eckhart Kopetzky, Gustav Mahler, Bohuslav Martinu, Peter Maxwell Davies, Olivier Messiaen, Arvo Pärt, Alan Richardson, Jean Sibelius, Richard Strauss, Kurt Weil, Judith Weir, and Witold Lutoslawski.
Edward's concerto repertoire is equally diverse, including works by Frédéric Chopin, George Gershwin, Franz Liszt, Einojuhani Rautavaara, Fazil Say, Robert Schumann, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Richard Strauss.
In addition to this, a current project is a collaboration with composer Jim Perkins in music for piano and electronics. See www.bigoandtwigetti.co.uk for more details.
